Review || The Clockwork Boys by T. Kingfisher.
Thank you again to Titan Books for giving me an Advanced Copy and inviting me to be a part of the book tour.
Clockwork Boys by T. Kingfisher is a fast-paced adventure that grips you from beginning to end. We follow Slate, a forger convicted of treason. Brenner, an assassin and ex-lover of Slate. Caliban, a paladin who’s possessed and Edmund, a sexist and slightly annoying scholar.
Book one is the set-up book, but not in the usual long-text, boring way (if you know, you know). Every chapter, conversation and scene fits into the story. Nothing feels out of place or forced. The story flows from beginning to end at a pace that leaves you wanting more. The characters become familiar, and their stories unfurl the more you read. Caliban feels like the most fleshed-out of the characters, so I would like to see more depth about the others in future books.
I gave Clockwork Boys 4 stars, and here’s why:
– The easy-to-read, fast-paced writing style doesn’t leave you confused or guessing.
– The gripping storyline flowed well from start to finish.
– The slow-burn romance.
– The adventure and stakes that have you rooting for the characters.
If this book sounds like something you’d enjoy, add it to the TBR.
